Radiohead is reportedly close to signing a deal to release their new album In Rainbows independently.

According to the New York Times, the band is on the verge of signing a deal to release the CD version of the album in the U.S. with ATO Records, which is headed by Coran Capshaw--Dave Matthews Band's manager and co-owner.

Under the proposed deal, Radiohead would license the album for a specified period of time while retaining ownership of the recording.

Major labels including Warner Bros. Records, Columbia Records, and Starbucks were reportedly engaged in a bidding war for the album, but it looks as though Radiohead will be leaving the major labels behind for a more independent business model.

It also looks likely that British label XL Recordings will market the album internationally.

Radiohead recently shook up the music industry by allowing fans to determine what price to pay for In Rainbows, as previously reported.
